about

‘Tent Lantern’ is an intimate story of a sexuality challenged by the traditional values of a father’s masculinity. The lyrics are driven by a cacophony of gospel sounds, including harmonic backing vocals from a choir, complemented by the alternative/folk drums, bass and guitar.

lyrics

“I like your sister
And I think I like your brother too”
Tight rope walking
The fine line between the two
And that’s what you do
When you don’t know what to do

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ohh-ohhhhhh
Oh-oh

(To do)

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ohh-ohhhhhh
Oh-oh

Your cunningness
Welded the tent mesh together
When you told dad:
“I made a mistake”
You’re not gay, are you?
No, I’m not gay
That’s not true
And that’s what you do
When you know what’s true

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ohh-ohhhhhh
Oh-oh

(What’s true?)

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ohh-ohhhhhh
Oh-oh

So hug it out man
Only If it feels right
Lay by my side
Conversation lasts as long
As the pounding in your chest
Always the chest

So Talk it out
We’ve got all night
Because facetious is the face
Of kindness for cowardice
40 degree sweat-beading weather
And eventually you’ll have to
Open up the tent
So open the tent
Open up the tent

Oh-oh
Ohh-ohhhhhh
Oh-oh

We all go through an abundance
That goes unspoken
But in our suffering
We find our resolve
And I’m about to get some sleep
And my stomach is full
The recovery is going well
I hope yours is too

And so I made a mistake
“I like your sister
And I think I like your brother too”
That’s what you do
When you know
what’s true
